Women in Tech

From Community Building to Creating Opportunities for Women in Tech

When Favour Lemah joined The Bulb Africa, she never imagined that managing a community of aspiring tech talents would evolve into something far more profound, an experience that would change not just her life, but the lives of other women too.

At the time, her role focused on nurturing a growing network of learners and connecting them to opportunities in the tech ecosystem. But with the guidance of her line manager, Patrick A., and the inspiring vision of Wande A., who dreamed of helping women gain access to tech education, her work began to take on a new meaning. Through mentorship and teamwork, she learned how to build, fund, and execute projects that truly matter — projects that bridge ambition with opportunity.

Together, the team created Tech Jewel, a program designed to sponsor and empower women in technology. It was more than an initiative — it was a mission to break barriers and make tech education more accessible to women across Africa.

She took on a central role, spearheading the funding and outreach efforts. From writing proposals and applying for CSR partnerships to pitching the program’s vision to companies, she brought the dream of Tech Jewel to life with determination and purpose.

While the sponsorships were a tangible success, the personal transformation was equally powerful.

She reflects that what she gained from the experience went far beyond the money raised.

Through Tech Jewel, she learned how to:
1. Write winning grant proposals that translate passion into measurable goals.
2. Build trust with stakeholders by aligning purpose with partnership.
3. Manage large-scale community projects that deliver real, trackable outcomes.

For anyone who has been part of a project that changes them as much as it changes others, this story resonates deeply. It’s a reminder that purpose-driven work doesn’t just transform communities — it transforms the people who build them.

Her journey at The Bulb Africa is a testament to that truth:
when vision meets mentorship, and when passion meets opportunity, extraordinary things happen.
