Kibo School of Technology

Kibo provides African learners with education that will increase their employability and earnings.

We offer an online, 3-year BSc in computer science to learners in Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. We also provide free technical training in Python Programming, Web Development, and Data Science through various short boot camps programs, online and at local secondary schools.

Kibo is training world-class technical talent in Africa for the world. The future of global talent is African. While western countries face aging populations and decreased productive capacity, Africa is getting younger. By 2050, Africa’s working-age population will reach 1.3 billion, surpassing the combined working-age populations of China and India. In spite of its workforce potential, Africa cannot meet the rising global demand for STEM talent.

Kibo’s unique value proposition stems from three things:

  • Employment focus: our key success metric is graduate employability and economic mobility. We only offer STEM degrees with high global demand. Our academic model prioritizes real-world application, including mandatory internships each year.
  • Hybrid design: Self-paced online learning does not work. While most content delivery happens async on our learning platform, each class meets weekly for a live session led by an expert instructor. Our courses require peer collaboration and group projects. We also facilitate local meetups to boost connection and community.
  • World-class networks: online learning removes limitations of local networks.  Our faculty come from top companies (e.g., Amazon, Cloudflare). During their first-year internship, students are mentored by professionals from companies like Microsoft and Google as they contribute to open-source projects.

To date, we have 120 students in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria enrolled in BSc in computer science. We have an 80% retention after Year 1, and 100% of students placed in internship at the end of Year 1. We’ve also served 3000+ students in our free bootcamps.
